Center for Regional and Local Development
The Center for Regional and Local Development, established at SDU University in Kaskelen, Kazakhstan in 2024, is part of the Business School. It focuses on socio-economic research and capacity building for regions and cities. Our approach includes evidence-based policy-making and sustainable solutions through both quantitative and qualitative methods. We emphasize academic and professional integrity in research.

This includes public finance management, where the emphasis is on improving fiscal transparency, accountability, and the efficiency of resource allocation at both regional and local levels. Public Human Resource Management (HRM) is another crucial area, addressing the development of strategic HR policies that enhance the capacity and motivation of public sector employees. Additionally, the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is explored in depth, particularly its impact on enhancing service delivery, citizen engagement, and the overall transparency of government operations. The track aims to provide insights into how good governance practices can drive sustainable regional and local development.

    The healthcare track centers on evidence-based policy research and capacity building in the regional and local management of healthcare systems. While public health issues are at the forefront, this track also tackles the complexities of healthcare management, including the development of robust healthcare policies, the integration of health services, and the regulation of healthcare providers. Attention is given to the challenges of delivering quality healthcare in underserved areas, the role of technology in improving healthcare outcomes, and the importance of preventive care. This track also aims to explore innovative approaches to healthcare financing and the management of health disparities across different regions.

    This track is dedicated to advancing evidence-based policy research and capacity building in the management of education at the regional and local levels. It seeks to address key challenges in the education sector, including the equitable distribution of educational resources, curriculum development, and the implementation of innovative teaching methods. The subcomponents of this track also delve into issues related to employment and training, with a particular focus on youth. This includes examining the effectiveness of vocational training programs, the alignment of education systems with labor market needs, and strategies to reduce youth unemployment through targeted educational interventions.

    This track is focused on fostering research and developing practical solutions to enhance regional and local economic development. Key areas of interest include strategies for stimulating local entrepreneurial potential, which involves supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and fostering a conducive environment for startups. The track also covers agricultural and industrial development, emphasizing sustainable practices and value chain enhancements that can drive local economies. Additionally, it explores the role of infrastructure development, access to finance, and policy interventions in promoting inclusive economic growth. The ultimate goal is to empower local communities to achieve economic self-sufficiency and resilience in the face of global economic challenges.

Furthermore, this track examines the impact of financial regulation and supervision on regional economic stability, and the role of fiscal policies in driving inclusive growth.The goal is to equip policymakers and practitioners with the knowledge and tools needed to harness finance as a catalyst for regional and local prosperity.
