Bauyrzhan Yedgenov is a Kazakhstani economist specializing in public economics and development economics, with a focus on fiscal decentralization, taxation, and their implications for economic development, inequality, and institutional quality. He is an Assistant Professor of Economics at SDU University and an affiliated Senior Research Associate at the International Center for Public Policy at Georgia State University. His work combines rigorous empirical methods with policy-oriented research, including extensive experience in field experiments—he has served as a field coordinator and evaluation specialist on the largest randomized controlled trial (RCT) implemented in Kazakhstan with World Bank support and is the first and only Invited Researcher from Central Asia at J-PAL (Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab). His academic publications appear in leading journals such as World Development, Journal of Economic Geography, European Journal of Political Economy, and Journal of Development Economics.
